It starts promisingly enough: a mad dash off a sinking ship, a military coup, and a zombie horde just aching to be shown the business end of a shotgun. And then, just like that, the promise is taken away. 

Dead Island: Riptide teases far more in its opening minutes than it ever manages to deliver across its lengthy campaign. There's no drama, and little excitement.

Instead, there's a rehash of old ideas, combat that's fun for all of five minutes, and a seemingly never-ending slog of repetitive missions filled with characters that have the emotional depth of a wet sponge. If there were ever a video game equivalent of smacking your head against a brick wall, Riptide would be it.

Assassin’s Creed 3′s first major DLC The Tyranny of King George Washington might seem like a completely irrelevant tangent, but Ubisoft says we should be paying attention to the story. Apparently, this alternate reality will bear some weight in the series’ overarching storyline, somehow.

As the story goes, Connor wakes up one day to find the world has gone completely bonkers. George Washington went on a power trip and declared himself king, people who had died (like his mother) are suddenly alive, and his tribe can now grant superpowers through herbal tea. Oh, and Connor’s cool new animal-themed outfit also lets him do crazy things, like turn invisible or do some crazy flying attack. Not that the player will be the only one confused. In fact, Connor won’t understand any of this either. The first episode of the three-part DLC will actually open with a brief video that, of course, is completely undecipherable. That is, until you go through the game and uncover all the memory artifacts to unlock the full two-minute version.

To combat George Washington, Ratonhnhaké:ton will need to master several new abilities:

MLB 13 : THE SHOW

MLB 13 : The Show is the best baseball video game i ever seen.

It  gives the realistic experience to the player. It allows players to feel the MLB experience with moments such as when you're called up to the majors, a sacrifice fly to left field, or crushing a walk-off homer to win it all.

MLB 13 offers accessibility and depth without sacrificing either. The Show has always featured a plethora of control schemes to accommodate players of all stripes, but the series put the onus on players to seek them out and figure out the right combination. While it's still easy to get lost in the game's menus, the new Beginner Mode makes it possible for newcomers to start playing without feeling immediately bewildered — no small task in a game this complex.

With The Show, two things immediately leapt out at me: the visuals and the gameplay. The former are again capable of fooling passersby into thinking it’s a real baseball telecast from afar. Player faces, animations, and stadium details are just that good, and interface details are convincingly TV-like. I enjoyed bolstering this illusion using the “Broadcast” camera mode, which closely replicates the perspectives you see when watching a real ballgame on TV, but there are also plenty of more traditional video game views, such as one that lets you pitch from the catcher’s perspective.
